New reading and language intervention
A new handbook is now available describing how to implement an evidence-based reading and language intervention designed for children with Down syndrome.
The programme combines reading and language instruction in daily 40-minute teaching sessions. It was evaluated in a landmark trial and found to improve reading and language outcomes for primary school pupils with Down syndrome. The handbook includes two DVDs illustrating teaching techniques and a CD of printable resources.
DSE Checklists download editions now available
New download editions of our checklists are now available. The DSE Checklists are designed to help parents and professionals assess a child's skills, record progress and guide teaching and therapy accordingly. The checklists cover communication, speech and language development from the early years and into childhood.
Down Syndrome Issues and Information ebooks now available
DSE is bringing its range of Down Syndrome Issues and Information short books to a range of electronic devices and operating systems as PDF ebooks.
The new ebook editions bring this comprehensive series to a wide variety of modern devices and computer platforms, offering a convenient and lower cost alternative to printed editions. Many are now available, with more to be published in the coming weeks.
Add-ons bring See and Learn vocabulary to specialist apps
The See and Learn First Written Words and First Sentences Add-Ons for Special Words and Special Stories provide words, phrases and story books with pictures and spoken prompts to support matching and reading activities. The add-on resources are designed for use with the Special Words and Special Stories apps, which should be purchased separately, for use on the Apple® iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch®.
